The Treaty forming the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was signed on 28 May 1975 and revised in 1993. The ECOWAS Treaty is also referred to as the Lagos Treaty because it was signed in Lagos.

The ECOWAS Treaty of Lagos, signed on May 28, 1975, in Nigeria established the Economic Community of West African States to promote regional economic cooperation, integration and development.
